You may think an artist’s life is simple, but it is not so. Apart from artist block, there are other aspects too that make the life of an artist tough. One is the cost of art supplies. Art Materials can become very costly, and if you don’t have a good earning, it can burn a hole in your pocket. There are different ranges of products available in the market, and some products are a lot more expensive than others. Now even if you don’t buy many art supplies, certain things are necessary for every artist. Here is a list of those supplies:
Essential Art Materials I – Drawing Paper Or Sketchbook
Even if you have all the other art supplies, who won’t be able to do anything if you don’t have a drawing paper or a sketchbook, you don’t require an expensive or high-quality paper to draw. It can also be done on simple paper or a reasonably cheap sketchbook of the store. If you want to succeed, then the only thing you need is practice.
Essential Art Materials II – Graphite Pencils
As we all know, it is one of the essential art supply. A pencil is the starting point of almost every drawing because it is erasable. Pens come in various types. There are different ranges by the darkness of its lead. While HB pencil is the most commonly used type, there are darker pencils like 2B, 4B, 6B and so on which gets darker as they go on further.
Essential Art Materials III – Kneaded Erasers
We all have ordinary erasers which have a fixed shape and gets smaller with use. But for artists, we have another type of eraser which is putty-like. We can mold it in any possible way. In the ordinary erasers after you have rubbed off the sharp edges, it becomes challenging to erase small parts with the blunt round corners. You either have to cut a piece from it, or you have to start using a new one. But with the kneaded eraser it becomes easy for you to make any pointed shape to rub small details without cutting it. Another bonus is that this type of eraser doesn’t leave behind any dust.
Essential Material IV – Brushes
If you are into painting, you cannot do absolutely anything without this. Brushes are an integral part of the painting process. Different mediums use different kinds of brushes. For example, watercolor brushes are much shorter than oil paintbrushes. It is because oil paint is generally done on an easel while standing up. Another difference is the material of the brushes. Oil paint brushes are much stiffer than watercolor brushes.
Essential Material V – Paint
Paint, of course, is again a necessity for an artist. They too are available in different types and mediums. We have watercolor, oil paint, acrylic paint, fabric paint, and many other types. Different artists specialize in different mediums, and their techniques are different too. Colors can be used in various forms using various techniques to create masterpieces.
